Great Lessons You Can Learn From Quarantine - 2020 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Edition - Part 2

Continuing from yesterday, here is Part 2 of the series........

21. Apparently we should stop our longtime practice of drinking bleach as a health cure, if all of these memes making fun of the president are to be believed.

This is one of my favorites on this list. And believe it or not, this gem was given to us by none other than Donald Duck ... oops.. Trump.. :) !!!

22. How to make a no-sew face mask with items you can find around the house.

Now this is something that is somewhat of a fad recently with numerous How To videos popping up on YouTube and other Social Media recently. But truth be told due to the shortage or hoarding of PPE items mainly face masks, this is a very useful and helpful hack for the citizens of this virus ravaged planet.

23. You can grow scallions from kitchen scraps.

Save the root, put it in a glass with a little water and leave it in a sunny windowsill. It's sort of amazing.

24 How much porn is too much porn?

In quarantine, there is no right answer.

25. The value of a hug.

26. Maybe spending time with your family isn't so bad after all.

Big, scary situations like this have a way of making unimportant things disappear. In times of crisis, we often find out who we can really turn to in life, and sometimes you find out that the most reliable people in your life are family. You might not always agree with them on politics or other topics, but when you are sweating out a fever and desperate for a Tylenol delivery, it's often your family who will step in and save you.

27. If you have good friends, you are rich.

Maybe you've been laid off. Maybe you're down to your last $20. Maybe it feels like your walls are closing in on you, and you're totally freaking out. In these (and all other) situations, having good friends is invaluable. They'd do for you what you'd do for them, and you can watch out for each other. So many people don't have this. If you do, count your blessings.

28. What a stay-at-home order means for those experiencing homelessness.

You think you have it hard? If you have a roof over your head in these trying times, count your blessings, as there are millions of unfortunate souls who are left to sleep under open skies, vulnerable and helpless.

29. How to cut our own hair.

So this is one of many other skills that i have acquired during this quarantine. I went ahead and bought myself a nice hair clippers with 4-5 attachments for different lengths of hair and experimented a few times until I finally got it right after many attempts. I even got my wife to try a couple of times and she happily obliged :),,,,,,,,

30. Back in the Kitchen

Years ago, feminism stepped up to reject the idea of labeling cooking and cleaning as “women’s work,” which likely has something to do with home economics tapering off in the first place. But here we are, decades later, men and women alike, teaching our children the value of baking blueberry muffins or, in my case, making omelets and fritters. Baking is also a new skill that I'm learning and want my daughter to acquire as well.
You might have the next “Master Chef Junior” champion on your hands. Who knows? Either way, it never hurts to teach children the basics, such as how to boil water. Learning the proper names of various utensils and cookware is useful, and just think how much better off your children will be in college if they know how to make something other than a bowl of cereal or a cup of ramen. For younger kids, taste tests are a fun and delicious way to experiment with new foods and flavor combinations, and planting an herb or vegetable garden allows them to grow both their knowledge and something they can eat. Older kids can branch out a bit more independently and test drive some recipes on their own. “My family are huge fans of bread,” says high schooler Saba. “So, with so much free time, I thought it would be fun to learn to make bread. It’s fun, and I get to eat something yummy at the end.”
Indeed baking is a winner, teaching kids the value of exact measurements and following recipes. Not to mention, we should never underestimate the joy-inducing power of a homemade dessert. “My daughter recently baked a cake by herself — one that has been my mom and grandma’s go-to for years. Now I’m passing it on,” says Simona, mom of 11year-old Antonia. “I supervised and guided, but I taught her how to turn on the oven and timer, carefully level out the ingredients, and why it’s important not to lift a mixer out of the mixing bowl while it’s turned on. She also used a toothpick to check if her cake was done, and she later made frosting and decorated it.”

31. We can learn a lot from the elderly.

They've been through it all, and they know how to survive it all. Now with everybody turning to the old ways of baking bread and planting gardens, the best advice you can find is from your elderly loved ones. They've survived violent flu seasons and multiple depressions and terrible natural disasters. Not only can they teach you how to cope, they can also tell you where to plant tomatoes in your yard for the highest yield. (Where there is full sun and warm soil :)

32. Men we know will grow quarantine beards, or will experiment with new cringeworthy facial hair shapes.

Hahahaha... now i have experimented with a few styles myself in the past 8 weeks and had my wife shout and scream at my new "looks" and had to finally settle on something that she liked the most..

33. When industry stopped, global pollution dropped.

People in northern India could see the Himalayas for the first time in 30 years, LA had some of the cleanest air of any major city in the world in April, and jellyfish were seen swimming in the nearly clear canals of Venice. Although temporary (pollution will rebound when the global economy restarts), the near-immediate impact is a nice reminder of the power humans have over the environment — for both good and bad — especially surrounding the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

34. That people can successfully work from home in many industries.

YES... And that happened. Many of us are now attending company meetings online via Zoom, Cisco and many other numerous Apps that we didn't know even existed before this pandemic hit us. Now this has made us realize how unnecessary it is for so many employees to be commuting to and fro work every single day, when in fact they are not needed or at least their physical self is not needed to be there in the company office premises. I feel productivity is higher and people are much less stresses working from home. This also avoids unnecessary physical contact and helps spread of viruses :).
On the flip side it is beneficial to the companies leasing huge office premises as well. I know some companies have now asked their employees to continue working from home even after this lock-down has been lifted. This has enabled these companies to give up on the leased properties and in turn save thousands on rent. Many have now agreed to pay an extra work from home allowance to their employees to cover the extra usage of electricity since they are working out of their own homes. It's a win - win for everyone in such cases. the company saves on rent by not leasing huge and expensive office premises and the employees save on time and fatigue as they don't have to travel long distances to get to work. I think this situation works out for all. technology has been a blessing in this case.

35. Love conquers corona.

Some weddings have been rescheduled, others have been held in creative and intimate ways. I recently attended an online weeding via Video Call and the reception was also Live Streamed with just the Couple and their parents in attendance. Hundreds of people sent their love and blessings along with their best wishes for the couple. It was heart warming to see so many people from all parts of the world comment their well wishes and with heart emojis flowing everywhere. Love was definitely in the air. Only down side was that we had to get our own Booze for the reception and order our own takeout (we did Indian food) but other than that it was a new and novel way to celebrate a new beginning during these trying times.

36. How to grieve from a distance.

We have been fortunate enough to have not lost any loved ones during this pandemic. but we have heard in the news of people who have. It is a very sad and tragic thing to happen to a family in these times. But it has also made people to grieve from a distance. Lots of video calls and phone calls between the grieving family members. Prayer gathers / meetings were live streamed for all family members and friends to be able to attend while social distancing.

37. We can learn a lot from people who are sober.

Right now we are all learning to take it one day at a time. We're also learning how to apply the Serenity Prayer and learning that there are many things we cannot change. Sober people already knew all of this. Hahaha.....:)

38. Everyone you know learned how to bake sourdough bread and post about it on Instagram or YouTube.

Yes cooking and baking once again.... I think this is the second time this has appeared on my list here..... But it is true. So many households have discovered their passion for cooking... specifically baking. Even i started my own YouTube Channel and posted some of my favorite recipes for all to see and enjoy. the link to my channel is below. Please Subscribe to my channel and watch the videos. if you like what you see, then please Like & Share with your family and friends.

39. Staying safe at home isn't always safe.

Especially for victims of domestic violence or children who are suffering from abuse.

40. People cleared out the shelters because dog is man's best friend.

Yes most of the shelters are now empty since majority of the people are at home and it seems like a good choice to get a pet now as you and your family will have enough time to spend and get acquainted with it. I only hope that people don't send these pets / dogs back to the shelters once the lock-down / quarantine is lifted. that'll be the saddest thing ever for these animals. It'll be like you adopt a child and once you get bored of it after a few weeks / months you send them back to the orphanage. Pets are a lifetime commitment just like any other new relationship in your life. think twice before you get once.

41. We can learn a lot from people with disabilities.

Don't know where to find (usually common) medical supplies like masks or need tips on how to stay at home for months alone without losing your mind? Call up that friend that you rarely see because of their disability. Chances are that while you were out visiting all of the bars and dropping in on multiple grocery stores, they were at home getting their groceries delivered and learning how to ration their alcohol supplies. People with physical disabilities have to adapt constantly, so their problem-solving skills are usually top notch. They say if you want something done to ask a mom. This is true. But if you ask a mom with a disability, chances are it will already be done.

42. Inflatable shark/dinosaur/unicorn suits will not keep you from contracting COVID-19.

We asked a scientist. She said no.

43. Washing your hands several times per day results in scaly dinosaur hands.

Use a good hand cream that will keep your hands moisturized even when you use 90% alcohol based sanitizers to wash your hands several times a day.
I suggest my personal favorite L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream. Available on Amazon, link below: https://amzn.to/366Yfsp

44. The immediate economic fallout that comes from closing restaurants and bars.

And other nonessential businesses. More than 30 million Americans applied for unemployment between March 21 and late April. And this trend continues in majority of the countries around the world.

80. You don't have to be productive during quarantine.

Sometimes it's enough to just focus on taking care of yourself and those you love.
